Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. Each semester, we take a class called “clinic.” We meet for an hour each week to discuss our time with our clients, our time observing in the schools, or our time teaching. Me, my two classmates, and our advisor take this time to discuss challenges we face and brainstorm ideas for one another. Our advisor provides PowerPoints and handouts to deepen our understanding of Deaf culture and Deaf education. In clinic, we also communicate with our client’s parents by mailing parent letters at the beginning and end of the semester to detail their child’s progress. These letters encourage the parents’ involvement as co-collaborators in their child’s learning.
