Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability. After completing the pre-assessment process, I created a lesson plan each week before meeting with my client. Every aspect of my lesson plans was dictated by my client’s needs and interests. For example, in one of my lesson plans shown below, my client was facing difficulty writing subject verb agreement sentences in the present tense. I could tell she always got discouraged when we got to the writing section of each lesson plan, so I designed that section each week to allow her to find enjoyment in the activity. In this lesson plan, I found pictures that involved the verb “to dance,” since that is one of her favorite things to do. When writing these sentences, we would act them out by dancing around the room. Another one of my clients loved dirt bikes and SpongeBob so I frequently included these aspects in his lesson plans. I instantly saw an improvement in my client’s understanding of the concept once I made the activity learner driven.
